Mission Statement

Be doers of the word, and not merely hearers.
James 1:22

The Church speaks clearly of the duties of family members to one another that build a radiant faith. . . . But the Church doesn't stop there; it also speaks of the relationship between families and the larger culture, the duty of service, working for the common good, welcoming strangers, and giving voice to the Christian conscience. That is the message; you are the messenger.

A Radiant Faith: The Gift of Families to Families
Address of the Most Reverend Anthony M. Pilla, Bishop of Cleveland
to the Christian Family Movement
August 5, 1995

The mission of the Christian Family Movement is

  • to promote Christ-centered marriage and family life;
  • to help individuals and their families to live the Christian faith in everyday life; and
  • to improve society through actions of love, service, education and example.

Adopted by the Board of Directors
March 10, 2002

Goals

  1. To develop a consciousness (both a family and a social consciousness) based on Christian principles and examples.

  2. To develop responsible, concerned and happy families that are part of a supportive and affirming network of families within every community who will individually and collectively reach out to others in need.

  3. To offer opportunities for families to grow in their personal relationships with one another as well as with their friends, neighbors and co-workers.

  4. To develop a caring society that not only recognizes, but actively supports family life.

  5. To initiate and encourage research that impacts on the actual needs of families.

  6. To continue to foster the international spirit of the Christian Family Movement.

Our Symbol

The CFM symbol is made up of four component parts: the ancient's signs for man, woman and child with the Christian symbol for Christ, joined in beautiful harmony to form a single unit, indicating the most basic characteristic of the Christian family.
Christ - superimposed upon the whole is the symbol for Christ, the "Chi Rho", Who holds the central place in the family unit.
Man - shown with arms lifted up to God, standing as a tower of great strength, exemplifying his place as head of the family.
Woman - reaching toward the earth, beautifully demonstrating her likeness to the earth in her fertility-the place she holds in the divine plan of creation, fulfilled in the family unit.

Child - the circle, as a sign of life, represents the child, showing the closeness of the power of man and woman to God's supreme power of creation.

CFM Prayer

Holy Trinity, you are a family.

We believe you wish our families to reflect your heavenly community.

Jesus has called us to family ministry, and asked his heavenly Father not to take us from the world, but to deliver us from evil.

And so we pray for the Christian Family Movement, that present members may grow in grace and that new families may join us.

Through good example and prayer, may our homes become that which you desire them to be: true domestic churches, temples of your glory, and schools of humanity, ushering in the reign of God.

Amen.
